Free LPG Gas Connection Scheme 2025 – Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY)

The Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY), launched in 2016 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, continues to uplift rural and underprivileged households by offering free LPG gas connections. As of 2025, the scheme enters its PMUY 2.0 Phase-III, expanding its reach and making it easier than ever to apply.

LPG Scheme Overview

  • Scheme Name: Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY)

  • Launched: 2016

  • Objective: To provide clean and safe cooking fuel (LPG) to poor households, especially in rural areas.

 Background

Prior to PMUY, many families used hazardous solid fuels like wood, cow dung, and crop waste for cooking. These caused serious health problems and indoor pollution. PMUY aims to change that under the slogan:

“Har Ghar LPG, Har Ghar Swasthya” (LPG in every home, health in every home).

 Key Objectives

  • Provide free LPG connections to Below Poverty Line (BPL) households.

  • Eliminate the use of harmful solid fuels.

  • Improve indoor air quality.

  • Promote women empowerment by reducing time spent cooking with solid fuels.

  • Ensure universal access to clean energy.

  • Contribute to environmental protection.
